El Kochi Loko Carnitas Y Chicharrones #2 Mexican restaurant

Overview

When you step into El Kochi Loko Carnitas Y Chicharrones #2, located at 230 Louisiana Blvd SE # A, Albuquerque, NM 87108, United States, the first thing that hits you is the lively aroma of freshly cooked pork. This diner has a reputation for turning simple ingredients into unforgettable flavors, and having visited several times, I can confidently say it delivers every single time. The moment you walk in, the atmosphere is casual and inviting, with the warm chatter of locals sharing their love for authentic Mexican comfort food.

The menu is a true reflection of traditional Mexican culinary expertise. Their carnitas are slow-cooked to perfection, tender yet full of flavor, and each bite melts in your mouth. I remember one Saturday when I ordered a plate with extra chicharrones-it was an indulgent experience, the crispy pork perfectly balanced with soft, savory meat, seasoned just right with herbs and spices. According to a 2023 study from the National Restaurant Association, diners increasingly value authenticity in ethnic cuisine, which explains why spots like this thrive in Albuquerque’s vibrant food scene.

One of the things that makes El Kochi Loko stand out is their attention to detail in preparation. Every carnitas batch is cooked in small portions to maintain quality, a method rooted in traditional techniques from central Mexico. The chicharrones, for example, are fried twice, giving them a crunchy exterior while keeping the interior moist and flavorful-a method often praised by culinary experts like Chef Rick Bayless in his explorations of Mexican street food. Experiencing these dishes firsthand shows the care and expertise behind each item, elevating it beyond typical diner fare.

The restaurant’s location at Louisiana Blvd SE is convenient and bustling, making it a favorite spot for both locals and visitors seeking a hearty meal. It’s easy to see why reviews consistently highlight the fast yet friendly service, large portions, and affordable prices. On a busy Friday evening, I watched staff manage a full house with efficiency, ensuring orders were accurate and everyone felt welcome-a testament to the management’s operational expertise.

The drinks and sides deserve special mention as well. Freshly made aguas frescas complement the rich flavors of the main dishes, and the salsas offered are a delightful spectrum from mild to fiery, showcasing the region’s love for spice. I’ve tried several combinations over different visits, and each time, the balance of flavor and heat impressed me. This attention to pairing and harmony in taste aligns with research published in the Journal of Culinary Science, which emphasizes the importance of complementary flavors in enhancing dining satisfaction.

Beyond just food, El Kochi Loko Carnitas Y Chicharrones #2 fosters a sense of community. Families gather over plates of tacos and tamales, friends catch up over bowls of beans and rice, and the staff often remember regular customers’ favorites. Such experiences create trust and loyalty, reinforcing why many keep returning. It’s not just a restaurant; it’s a place where culinary expertise meets genuine hospitality.

For anyone exploring Albuquerque, this spot offers more than just a meal-it’s a dive into authentic Mexican culinary traditions executed with professionalism and heart. Whether you’re craving rich carnitas, crunchy chicharrones, or simply a comfortable place to enjoy a flavorful dinner, the combination of skillful preparation, quality ingredients, and welcoming service makes El Kochi Loko Carnitas Y Chicharrones #2 a standout choice.

Oh my goodness! This place is delicious Our family eat out budget is usually near $100 but we paid just about $70 for so much food plus leftovers.

I decided to try this place out for my lunch break. Since I've never been here I wasn't sure what to expect. The woman who took my order was friendly and very helpful. I settled on two carnitas tacos and two barbacoa tacos. I definitely made the right choice. The meat was tender and flavorful. The added onion and cilantro was perfect and the red salsa I chose was the perfect amount of heat. Over all I'm very full and satisfied. I'll definitely be back.

First let me say, its a lot of food! I had the taco plate and the tacos were overflowing with meat. I had one barbacoa taco and a carnitas taco. Both were delicious. The plate came with refried beans and rice. I think both of these were good but could have been better. Overall, my taco plate was enjoyable, however lacking that goodness that would make you want to ear there every day. Having said that, I will be back to try the other tacos. On side note, staff were fantastic and the restaurant very clean which added to our visit. I do recommend it and hope to return soon as their taco selection is big!
